# How Much Does LASIK Cost?

January 15, 2023

---

Laser eye surgery can dramatically improve your vision and may free you from glasses and contacts. **Many people have questions about the cost of treatments like **[**LASIK**](https://www.heartoftexaseye.com/vision-correction/lasik/)**. **Fortunately, you have many options to make LASIK affordable. You can even save money on corrective lenses.

## What is LASIK Laser Eye Surgery?

![A woman having an eye exam to discuss LASIK eye surgery.](https://blog.heartoftexaseye.com/hs-fs/hubfs/how-much-lasik-cost-heart-of-texas-eye-care.png?width=1200&height=630&name=how-much-lasik-cost-heart-of-texas-eye-care.png)

**LASIK is a type of laser eye surgery that reshapes the **[**cornea**](https://www.aao.org/eye-health/treatments/lasik)** to correct vision**. Your cornea is a clear, domed structure at the front of your eye. It changes the angle of light as it enters the eye, focusing it on the retina so you see a clear image. When light does not focus on the retina, vision looks blurry at certain distances. LASIK changes the shape of the cornea for better vision.

## How Does LASIK Work?

**Your eye surgeon performs LASIK by creating a flap in the cornea’s outer layer**. They will numb your eyes to prevent you from feeling anything. A femtosecond laser uses rapid pulses of energy to create the flap. Your surgeon then uses an excimer laser to remove microscopically thin layers of the cornea until it achieves the proper shape.

## How Much Does LASIK Cost?

The cost of LASIK varies widely depending on several factors, including:

- Your location
- Your provider’s skill and experience
- Whether LASIK is the best option for you

The cost of LASIK can range from $1000 to $4000 per eye. **The average cost is about **[**$2500**](https://www.forbes.com/health/body/how-much-does-lasik-cost/)** per eye.** The initial investment in LASIK can pay off since you may no longer need to spend money on glasses or contacts. The younger you have LASIK, the more money you will save over a lifetime.

**We offer **[**financing options**](https://www.heartoftexaseye.com/patient-resources/financing-options/)** to make LASIK affordable on almost any budget**. With several choices for no or low-interest payment plans, you can finally afford to see clearly.

## Am I a Good Candidate for LASIK?

LASIK is the most widely known type of laser eye surgery. **Most people make good candidates for this procedure**. However, LASIK is not right for everyone. We may recommend a different option if you have a thin or abnormal cornea, chronic dry eye, or engage in frequent contact sports. Only a full eye examination and assessment can determine if you are a good LASIK candidate.

## What is Recovery Like After LASIK?

**Your eyes will heal in about two weeks**. During that time, you will need to protect them from injury, so avoid swimming, eye makeup, and dusty environments. You will have eye protection to wear while you sleep to prevent accidental rubbing. You may notice irritation, blurriness, and glare for up to a week, but medicated eye drops will help manage these.

I was referred to Heart of Texas Eye Care for a cataract evaluation. I qualified! I saw the professionals there several times, before, during, and after the surgery, which was an astounding success! These folks are really good at what they do!
